SUPERSTARS!!!!! Clinton/Powell

Could it be? A friend of mine was telling me that they are in deep talks. With Clinton quickly becoming the likely Democrat's nominee for President, it seems that she shopping around for a running mate. Could she really woo Powell not only back into politics but onto a Democratic ticket? Getting Powell onto the ticket would be a damn good start toward combating the enviable Clinton bashing that will come from Rove and his witless minions. Powell would silence criticism regarding perceived lack of foreign policy experience. Clinton and Powell would also be a foundation for a dream team in the white house. It could be an unbeatable ticket really. If she were able court Powell into being her VP, that would shore up an already flawless campaign.
Whether you like the woman or not Clinton shows up prepared. She thinks outside the box and she is extremely pragmatic. Powell cancels out Obama, brings in vast foreign policy experience, and add a bipartisan element to the ticket. What a genius move.

Welcome

If you read Stephen King you know "constant reader" as a sort of term of endearment he uses when he speaks to his audience. A King book is like a perfect cup of coffee; rich and satisfying, something to appreciate and savor for its singular quality. I am always reading something and wouldn't say that King is my favorite author, that will go to Barbra Kingsolver, nor am I sci-fi fan as a rule, but somehow he became a "constant" in my reading list since I was about 15 and picked up " The Stand". He is just one of the things in my life that I sort of take for granted, something to count on for reading pleasure when all else fails.

King maynot be grand enough for the intellectuals, and I to enjoy meaty material. I'm sure he isn't bestowed prestigious sounding awards and I never see any fancy gold stamps of approval on any of his books. So I assume he is just too common for the Vidal Gore types. He is certainly a "brand" and for many that simply means he isn't worthy of a read. He is almost like Fleetwood Mac, ignored by the conasure of his popularity. Real intellectuals wouldn't be caught dead groovin to Stevie Nicks singing Dreams or with a hard cover of Delores Claiborne on the end table. King and Fleetwood Mac not really purposely hidden but certainly not on display.

I don't think that King is anything like Lindsey Buckingham though, all pissed off poo-pooing his own work for being too commercial. Maybe in his youth he resented his own popularity but surely with maturity and his ability to maintain a certain lifestyle it all kinda balances out some how. Lindsey to this day seems to be totally conflicted about his success within Fleetwood Mac and he's what? 50-ish? Spend your millions old boy and get over your darn self.

We all sort of turn up our nose when something is tremendously popular. You wanna to be sorta better than the average Walmart goer thoughtlessly consuming drivel. In fact, I have yet to see one episode of Desperate Housewives on that premise. King and Fleetwood Mac might be overly commercial, they might be too common for you but let me ask you to put aside your assumption and give them a try.

I tell you this as I introduce myself to you as sort disclaimer that although most of my life may seem too common, even commercial. I am married have two children, work full time, have a house and a couple of pets (the perfect premise for a sitcom). I am all those things, but like King and Fleetwood mac, there is more to it than that. I am not some sort of white Republican stepford wife, oh no, far from it. I despise cooking, struggle financially, boycott Walmart, struggle at being "green" (I adore my mustang and paper plates are so much easier), I am a political junkie leaning toward Clinton but rooting for Biden. I love video games and play my 360 everyday (I know I am a grown woman ,but hey!) So, hello I hope to get to know you, perhaps like King I will get a constant reader or two.

Until next time ~
Peace
Lori
